Gamma Ray--Powerplant (1999/Noise)
Rating--8.7

Short as Hell--RealAudio
This smoker picks up right where "Somewhere Out in Space" left off, churning fast, heavy, and melodic power metal from all angles. Gamma Ray continues to be a leader in the Euro power scene, and Kai Hansen is a force to be reckoned with, as everything he touches turns to gold...
The evil and ripping note groove of "Short as Hell" is one of the disc's finest layouts, with another highpoint being the chugging and flowing base of "Gardens of the Sinner." A number of tracks are simply what we've come to expect from Hansen: strong and swift---"Strangers in the Night," "Heavy Metal Universe," "Wings of Destiny," and the melodic "Hand of Fate," among others.
A sneaky little bonus is a great remake of the 80's Pet Shop Boys track "It's a Sin". Total chug metal, but still with that 80's atmosphere. Commendable!
