It's So Easy--RealAudio
Raw and unabashed, GNR begin the second wave of L.A. sleeze metal to rule the charts. More extreme than both the Crue or Aerosmith, yet somewhat similar thematically. A nasty distorted twin guitar approach, grooving beats throughout, and the raspy attitude yelps of Axl Rose place this album firmly in the transgressional lifeline of metal.
The non-stop lead cut "Welcome to the Jungle" grabs throats everywhere, introducing the full force and reckless abandon the band possessed. "It's So Easy" is a bass-driven riot. Pure energy and angst!
"Nightrain" is strong with its winding, strutting verses, and "Out Ta Get Me" is guitar driven from the start.
More brash attitude drips from "Mr. Brownstone," with a sustained groove providing the perfect malicious backbone. Mega-hit "Paradise City" has a flowing chorus, and is a nice mix of light and heavy---"Sweet Child O' Mine" is similar with its yearning chorus.
Both "You're Crazy" and "Anything Goes" are rockers, and "Rocket Queen" absolutely pulses, with some of Axl's best work on the disc. A great riff change at 3:30 closes the album out nicely!
Solid throughout; it's truly a shame to see the band in disarray now.
HOT CHOPS: I first got this release on cassette tape, and the first "side" (the first six songs) is one of the rawest and most energetic moments in metal history ever recorded. Each track is a signature upon itself, and those 25 minutes of crunch and attitude are rarely matched anywhere else in metal...
