Gamma Ray--Heading for Tomorrow (1990)
Rating--7.0

The debut album from the Gammsters, this one evokes thoughts of Helloween, and for good reason---it consists of a couple of ex-Helloween mates (most notably Kai Hansen). It has that fast drums, fast guitars, and harmonizing vocals sound that made Helloween all the rage back during the 'Seven Keys' years. However, this album is nowhere in that range of talent. The guitar sound seems to get lost in the mix at times, and doesn't come across as heavy as one feels it should. Also, several of the songs are a bit too goofy and Slade-ish, such as "Money" and "Free Time". Some like this types of tracks, but I like the rockers better.
We do, however, get a sneak peak of what the band is capable of. Both "The Silence" and the title track are smooth, and Halford-esque singer Ralf Scheepers (formerly of Tyran Pace; later to move onto greater things with Primal Fear) keeps things fairly interesting throughout. Better things to come from this group in the future...
