Fates Warning--Disconnected (2000/Metal Blade)
Rating--7.5
Following solo endeavers by Ray Alder and Jim Matheos, Fates Warning releases an album that leans a bit more towards a traditional metal
direction. Alder uses a good amount of the vocal tendencies he let flow with Engine, and while there is still a lot of guitar note work,
there's some thick chords as well. Some very long tracks-- as the 'Disconnected' pieces are but bookends for the disc.
Some heavy mid-sections dot "One,"
and various high points are intermixed within the 16-minute long "Sill Remains".
The good "So" has a deliberate, chugging pace, and a deep, chord-heavy
chorus to "Pieces of Me" mixes well with its moving rhythm.
