Force of Evil - Force of Evil (2004/Escapi)
Rating - 8.2

Force of Evil is the brainchild of Mercyful Fate guitarist Hank Shermann, and he is actually joined not only by fellow Fate axeman Michael Denner, but the bass and drum duties are also held by former members of the Fate/King Diamond camps. With vocals courtesy of Martin Steene (Ironware), you have some crunching, classic metal sounds. Steene's voice is semi-deep as a norm, but shows hints of Wade Black in the higher registers. This album is a definite must-have for fans of the early, classic Fate era ('Melissa,' 'Oath,' et al), and the updated distortion makes it all the more appetizing.
"Hell on Earth" is a solid opener, with the constant buzzsaw of "Mindbreaker" following on its heels. "Eye of the Storm features some absolutely classic Fate music, as does the steady drum-backed pace of "Misery Man."
"Samhaim" is otherworldly with its heavy-moving, cranking rhythm, and virtually every track that follows is carved out of stone as well. In all, this is a solid metal offering; whether it ends up being a one-time project remains to be seen.
