Marty Friedman - Music For Speeding (2003/Favored Nations)
Rating - 8.4

The former Megadeth and Cacaphony guitarist returns with his first solo offering in seven years. There are the usual guitar-album effects and doodling, but also some righteous rhythm-backed crunching. Plenty of speed playing can be found, as overall this is one of the better instrumental discs in quite some time.
"Gimme a Dose" has an upbeat/driving mix, and "Fueled Injection Stringray" features some heavy swaggering about midway through. The heavy backbone of "It's the Unreal Thing" is tasty, as is the distortion flow of "Catfight."
Other good tracks include "Ripped," "Cheer Girl Rampage," "Nastymachine," "Novocaine Kiss," and the serene, Neal Schon-like "Corazon de Santiago."
