Flotsam and Jetsam--My God (2001/Metal Blade)
Rating--6.9
Flotsam was mainly a speed-oriented band during its early days, and recently the band has been moving back towards that direction a bit--which is a shame.
The crunch/rhythm/roll style that was incorporated during the middle-career albums showed the group at its best. Ever since the 'High' release there has been a
somewhat disjointed feel to the overall songwriting, and a lack of the power-metal "solidity" that had once been a given. All of this is more than a little disappointing, as
the boys appeared ready to make a major play on the scene following their excellent 1997 release.
"Dig Me Up to Bury Me" opens with a speed-pace, and other
good tracks include "My God," "Learn to Dance," "Killing Time," and the rolling chorus of "Camera Eye". Overall, though, too many tracks fail to distinguish themselves.
TRACK LIST: Dig Me Up to Bury Me/Keep Breathing/Nothing to Say/Weather to Do/Camera Eye/Trash/Praise/My God/Learn to Dance/Frustrate/Killing Time/I.A.M.H.
