Flotsam and Jetsam--Doomsday For the Deceiver (1986)
Rating--6.5
The debut from Flotsam, with a thrashy, Megadeth and somewhat
Anthrax-influenced sound. Not as thick and cohesive as on the more recent releases.
A number of tracks are fast paced and above-average pieces, including opener "Hammerhead," "Metalshock," "She Took
an Axe," "Der Fuhrer," and "Fade to Black." An acoustic intro gives way to a good pickup in the title song, and "Flotzilla"
is a solid and intricate instrumental, reminding of Maiden at times.
In all, towards the bottom
as far as the band's own discs are concerned. However, a safe buy for the general thrash fan, or for the F&J fanatic.
