Enuff Z'Nuff--Seven (1997/Mayhem)
Rating--7.0
We Don't Have to Be Friends--RealAudio
Largely a release of light hitters and acoustic tracks, though the band does justice to just about everything on here.
Reminds a bit of Mr. Big, in that the group is able to really shine when dealing with the more heart-
grabbing tunes. However, the Z'Nuff boys may just be a bit better at it...
This disc is actually the U.S. release of the Japanese
release "Brothers," which came out a couple of years prior. Think Cheap Trick, though with the patented EZ vox.
"We Don't Have to be Friends" is a powerful and beautiful slow track, and "You And I" is a great ballad as well. "Clown on the
Town" is good, and the flow of "New Kind of Motion" is undeniable.
The acoustic "Down Hill" has a nice riff solo, and
the heavier moments on the disc are comprised of "Still Have Tonight," "So Sad to See You," and the
Saigon Kick-ish "For You Girl." The latter has wonderfully mystical verses...
In all, a good pickup if you're looking to make
another of those "ballad compilation tapes" for your girlfriend, and a must for the total EZ freak.
