Whisper - mp3

Evanescence is an atmospheric/gothic sounding band from Arkansas, featuring enchanting female vocals. The group got a bit of a bad rap from metal fans at first, because of the "rap" - the nu-metal rapping that appeared on the band's first single "Bring Me to Life," that is. What should be understood and noted, however, is that Paul McCoy of 12 Stones guest-sings on that track - and on that track only. No other song on the album features any sort of nu-metal vocalization, and is actually quite metallic and chunky. Heavy shades of Lacuna Coil are brought to mind, as well as The Gathering - but more chord-centered and focused than either of those bands.
The aforementioned "Bring Me to Life" has an admittedly good flow, and "Going Under" is a strong and pulling tune. A number of other successful tracks include "Tourniquet," "Imaginary," "Taking Over Me," and "My Last Breath". "Hello" features some great singing over piano, and the disc-closing "Whisper" is strong throughout, saving the band's best for last.
