Europe--The Final Countdown (1986)
Rating--6.6
**U.S. Sales Certification--Multi-Platinum 3**
On the Loose--RealAudio
The pure voice of Joey Tempest moves this release, though it begins to incorporate keyboards in a lighter sense moreso
than in the past.
The ultra-memorable key intro of the title song kicks things off, as the tune is kept alive at sports
venues everywhere. Solid chords break through on "Rock the Night," "Ninja," "On the Loose," and "Love Chaser," reminding
at times of similar soft metalers White Lion. Along with
the title song, the other real big hit for the band off of this release was the super-ballad "Carrie." Tremendous, though the
distortion is kept in check for the most part.
The lighter side of the genre, to be sure, but once again Tempest's voice has some of the more special qualities
to be offered from the '80s hair scene. Not very caustic or forceful, but strong in a smooth and chilling way.
