Emerald Rain--Age of Innocence (1999/Frontiers)
Rating--8.1
No Savior--RealAudio
More melodic hard rock/metal from this Frontiers-label band. Not quite as heavy as its first release, but the solid songwriting continues. A great guitar sound, with
fabulous sustain.
Emerald Rain is somewhat similar to Ten, but with more consistency. The songs have tend to have firmer bases, and
there is more of a traditional hard rock focus. The first half of this disc is nonstop, while the action eases up a bit towards the end.
Stop-and-go chords lead to a
strong chorus in "No Saviour," and another flowing vocal section highlights "Desperate Heart". Rolling notes and light-hearted strafing mark "Never Surrender," while
more good chords sway the slower pace of "Don't Tell the Rain".
Other solid tunes are sprinkled throughout: "Sleeping in the Fire," "Endless Grey," "The Method,"
and "Your Disguise".
