Elegy--Forbidden Fruit (2000/Noise)
Rating--8.2
Masquerade--RealAudio
Elegy continues its assault on the power/prog world, as the band has carved itself a habit of consistently releasing strong CDs. Patrick Rondat joins the group to
perform the guitar duties, and his talents shine through in various ways. He's a fan of the note-riff and occasional harmonic, which blends well with Elegy's recent style
and sound.
'Forbidden Fruit' is in the same heavier mold as the previous 'Manifestation of Fear,' and contains some of the same flow as Ian Parry's recent solo
endeavor (which Rondat also appeared on, by the way).
The album is dotted with strong tracks, including standard-fare Elegy selections such as "Force Majeure,"
"Killing Time," "Behind the Tears," and the thick-handed "Icehouse".
"I Believe" is a slower cut, "Elegant Solution" has some slicing guitar chops, and a strong chorus
is the calling card in "Masquerade".
