Edwin Dare--My Time to Die (1998/Canyon International)
Rating--7.0
My Time to Die--RealAudio
The band's third release starts off lacking in the production department, as the distortion--one of the killer past attributes of the band--needs to be more to the front. Musically
this offering is much more subdued than the first two CDs. Overall there just aren't as many wide-open riffs, sharp paces, and so forth.
A couple of songs still smack with the attitude of old, as the title track is full of strutting, strafing axe work, and "The Monster" is nasty and grooving. A cranky, bobbing pace
is featured in "Weight of the World," while "Obsession of Intense Desire" has a bit of a smooth, late-'70s Van Halen feel.
Other steady songs include "We Need to
Hold On," "Look to the Stars," and the good vocals within "I Feel It".
