Damn Yankees--RealAudio
Hard rock supergroup, consisting of Ted Nugent, Tommy Shaw (Styx), Jack Blades (Night Ranger), and Michael Cartellone. Musically, the style on this release is closest to that of Nugent's solo work, though there are great vocal melodies ala Styx, as Shaw seems to handle the majority of the lead singing duties.
Opener "Coming of Age" moves in with a smooth flow before giving way to a distortion-crunching chorus. Heavier riffs bolster "Bad Reputation" and the title track; the latter was heard cruising in the background of the movie "Gremlins 2" when the little green dudes were tearing the place all to hell....
"Come Again" has an acoustic intro and then a slow-churn distortion, and really picks up at the solo.
The lighter "High Enough" got the band a fair share of radio play, as did "Runaway". "Mystified" is another above-average heavy hitter. Overall this is a solid release, and a nice mix of several rock-community talents.
