One More for the Road -- mp3

Ronnie James Dio keeps the ball rolling, releasing another album in a career that has virtually never seen a period of hiatus. Craig Goldy returns on the guitar, and Jeff Pilson recorded the bass parts (though has since been replaced by Rudy Sarzo, who will reportedly be doing the touring). Dio’s vocals are still top-notch, now twenty-some years into his metal career.
The guitar distortion sound is a bit stripped-down, and overall Goldy is not as impressive as Doug Aldritch was on the last album, which is a bit of a disappointment. Also somewhat on the downside is that there are several tracks in the slow-and-plodding mold-- which evokes some disturbing flashbacks of ‘Magica’ at times!! But it’s not quite that bad, however. This isn’t up to the energy level of the previous ‘Killing the Dragon,’ but it still features some strong Dio moments.
Opener "One More for the Road" has a chunky-rolling flow, and while "The End of the World" is a bit slower in pace, it boasts an excellent, thick stomp. The aptly-titled "Shivers" has a crawl-and-slither pace, with some head-moving palm work by Goldy. It also features some great end-song RJD singing around the 3:35 mark. Other good cuts include "Living the Lie," "I Am," and the prowling stalk of "In Dreams".
