Death - Scream Bloody Gore (1987/Relativity)
Rating - 7.0

An album that arguably started an entire genre of metal music, Florida's Death broke forth with an platter full of Slayer-like music, laughable, gory song titles, and those trend-setting deep-throated, gurgly vocals. The band showed an early niche for mixing tempos, instead of staying with a straight-out double-bass frenzy (as many of their followers would unfortunately do).
Opener "Infernal Death" is fast and swift, with "Denial of Life" have a good rhythm and riffs. Other cuts that make the grade include "Torn to Pieces," "Beyond the Unholy Grave," and the music of "Regurgitated Guts". An important disc in the progression of a musical genre; the band will improve on its own craft in the future.
