Destiny's End--Breathe Deep the Dark (1998/Metal Blade)
Rating--7.7
Vocalist James Rivera, formerly of Helstar, leads this speed/thrash unit. Also joining up are a couple of former members of
New Eden.
There are higher end power vocals, fast and intricate paces, and some tasty non-stop fret action. Reminds
at times of classic Sanctuary, a little Nevermore, and Tim Owens'
Winters Bane material.
The gallop of "The Fortress Unvanquishable" sets up a rapid pace
chorus, and "Unsolved World" is fueled by a nice drive. Sharp riffage dots "The Obscure," and the title track fluctuates
between speedy segments and heavy slow-downs.
A band with great live energy; they should continue to gel as a unit
in the future.
