Dr. Chunk is an indie unit from Southern California that plays chunky, straight-forward metal. Some of the bands that are brought to mind at times are Prong and fellow indie-mates Mr. Blackwell and Mr. Dead. There are the occasional hints of metallized punk here and there, but for the most part the band toils in catchy, somewhat melodic riffwork. Their name is aptly titled-- there's plenty of "chunk" to be had for all.
Top track highlights include the sliding "Traitor's View," as well as "11" and "Disallowed".
Numerous other cuts stand out, as there are few fillers here. Both "Psycho" and "Feel My Pain" are swifter fare, "Garden of Sound" has good singing and rhythm layering, and "Crop Circles" and "Face the Fear" both stand out as well.
