Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon (2003/Nuclear Blast)
Rating - 8.6

Dimmu Borgir has honed their symphonic brand of Black Metal over the years, and this is definitely their crowning achievement (up to this point, at least). There are orchestration, keys, and shades of Children of Bodom-like tendencies to be had, all of which are immersed in plenty of metal. In fact, strong music is abundant throughout, as this is a creative landmark in the Black/Extreme/Power genres (as there's a bit of each held within).
"Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" is dotted with gallop & chops, with some clean vocal sections mixed in. "Lepers Among Us" is a top highlight, as is "For the World to Dictate Our Death." Numerous other songs impress, including the thick and evil "Blood Hunger Doctrine," and both "Vredesbyrd" and "Unorthodox Manifesto," to name but a couple more.
