Criminal--Dead Soul (1997/Metal Blade)
Rating--8.2
Hijos De La Miseria--RealAudio
A strong death metal release; the vocals aren't rough to the absolute extreme, and the thick distortion is still very sharp in places. The music
isn't as full-rapid as the traditional DM approach, as a certain amount of power metal tendencies lurk.
Machine Head qualities are featured in places, as well as the punishing styles of Slayer and
Sepultura. Tasty and nasty death chops run rampant...
The paced and heavy "Scapegoat" lets you know the band means business, and is followed up by the thick riffing of "Collide".
"Victimized" is a crunchy treat, and songs like "No Salvation," "Hijos De La Miseria," and "Nation of Hate" are solid and strong.
Pace changes etch through "Slave Master," as the band flows in the fast parts, and grooves in the slower. In all, this disc is
a no-nonsense treat, and should appeal to fans of several metal genres.
