Conquest--Rage (1997)
Rating--7.0
Conquest is a band out of Missouri, and come across loud and heavy--sort of like a slower and less frantic
Pantera or Machine Head, with traditional fast-drum sounds of a
Rage as well. The voice is a lot like Ugly Kid Joe's Whit Crane, though
tougher and more gravelly.
The title cut is a pulsing start, and "Living Hell" brings a churning bar chord fest to your front
door. "Walk Away" features a note-heavy foundation with time changes throughout.
Both "Bad Seed" and "Judgement
Day" are riff-laden, with the latter giving way to a hammer drive, and "Fear" is a bludgeons as well.
The main drawbacks
seem to be a lack of variety in the majority of the choruses, and a similar beat to a number of the songs. Still, this is very
heavy and promising material--a pleasure to listen to.
