Saffron's Curse--RealAudio
Hailing from Suffolk, England, Cradle of Filth continues to break ground with its distinctive brand of shock Death/Black Metal. Controversial song titles, disturbing t-shirt images, and riveting concert appearances have dominated the band's past--all of which have only advanced its building legacy.
Keyboards add a gothic-like feel to the music, while the vocals fluctuate between high-pitched, to deep, to spoken parts. A wide variety overall, which mix well with the over-the-top music and delivery. Think Sanctus, perhaps, only much more extreme and flowing.
Tight guitar work in "Saffron's Curse" blends well with the intermixed female vocals, and a good underlying rhythm fuels "Her Ghost in the Fog". The multi-faceted "Tearing the Veil From Grace" is good, and is matched by "Torture Soul Asylum".
"Lord Abortion" and "Amor E Morte" are above par, and "Death Magick For Adepts" has a bonus spoken part by Pinhead (of 'Hellraiser' fame).
