Children of Bodom - Something Wild (1998/Nuclear Blast)
Rating - 7.9

The Finnish band's debut, 'Something Wild' is creative, Melodic Death Metal, incorporating some keys along with fast, intricate, and heavy music. The classic sounds of In Flames are brought to mind, but Children of Bodom push the envelope farther with their spontaneity and flair.
Tracks such as "Deadnight Warrior" and "Touch Like Angel of Death" are especially strong, with all of "Lake Bodom," "The Nail," and the fast-paced "Red Light in My Eyes, Pt. 2" being tasty as well.

"Janne Wirman's keyboards elevate Children of Bodom above and beyond your average Melodic Death band. Check out the fantastic keyboard work in the beginning of "Lake Bodom." "
