Cats in Boots--Kicked & Klawed (1989/EMI)
Rating--8.2
Her Monkey--RealAudio
Coast to Coast--RealAudio
Pure party metal... very sleazy and party-hearty, and surprisingly heavy, as well!
Reminds a bit of 'Feelgood'-era
Crue, as well as some of the raunchiest and most energetic in Aerosmith's
catalog. Shades of the early, heavy party Poison are evident as well. There's even
bits of early GNR, with a nasty-attitude swagger in some places.
Vocally, Joel Ellis can go from a
smooth glam voice, to a gruff and teasing Vince Neil, to a lurking and nasty Axl Rose.
Here's a scary thought... This could
have been one of the top glam party discs--- ever --- had it only been released about three or four years earlier. Every single
cut romps, save for one power ballad... definitely a collection-booster, for the '80s children...
"Shot Gun Sally" opens the offering in energetic and riff-rowdy fashion, and is followed by the rolling notes of the hyped "Nine
Lives (Save Me)". "Long, Long Way From Home" is tight and flowing, and "Judas Kiss" is grooving and strutting.
The romping trip of "Coast to Coast" reminds of some of that early GNR, while some quick and nasty strafing action
blisters through "Heaven on a Heartbreak". "Her Monkey" is non-stop, and a number of other tracks stand out as well:
"Whip It Out," "Evil Angel," and "Bad Boys Are Back".
A rowdy, pure party fest. Enjoy!
