Crimson Glory--Crimson Glory (1986/Roadrunner)
Rating--8.5

Azrael--RealAudio
The debut album from one of the most influential power/prog bands ever---and one of the most overlooked as well. How did these guys never make it?? 'Operation: Mindcrime'-era Queensryce, with soaring vocals and biting music. Crimson Glory's influence can be heard in a multitude of European power/prog units, including Conception, Kamelot, and others. This release is good; the followup is staggering.
The driving pace of the excellent "Azrael" makes it one of the disc's highest points, and is supported by such riff-cutting tracks as "Valhalla," "Dragon Lady," and "Heart of Steel."
"Mayday" is fast from start to finish, and vocalist Midnight's vocals are siren-like during the chorus. The nasty stalk of "Queen of the Masquerade" helps to yield yet another winner, as the band prepares to move forward with its second effort...
