Coal Chamber--Coal Chamber (1997/Roadrunner)
Rating--7.1
**U.S. Sales Certification--Gold**

One of the new-age metal units, as Coal Chamber sounds a bit like Sevendust, and I suppose a little like Korn as well. The band actually does a good thrash-up job live, coming across in a pit-faring Pantera style at times. The vocals are fast and distorted.
"Loco" begins with a thumping chorus, and the constant "Big Truck" is thickly paced. A great kick-in marks "Sway," and both "My Frustration" and "Oddity" are good cuts.
I'm kind of split on this genre, as it's still a bit unclear on whether bands like this want to shock, or if they want to rock. Let's see a couple more releases...
