Carcass - Swansong (1996/Earache)
Rating - 8.0

The band alters their style a bit for what would end up being their final studio offering, and those stylistic changes put off a lot of their longtime fans. The distortion sound isn't as etched or ripping as in the past, and much of the thrash-induced speed is missing as well. However, the songs are still good metal tracks, though, and good riffing can still be found aplenty. There is sort of a "classic" metal feel to a lot of the tracks, with death vocals on top, of course.
A slide-and-stutter chug rhythm marks "Cross My Heart," with "Black Star" having a rolling, catchy groove. Virtually every other track on the release has its redeeming points; without mentioning everything, some of the highlights include "Keep on Rotting in the Free World," "Go to Hell," "Don't Believe a Word," and "R**K the Vote".
