Alice Cooper - Trash (1989/Epic)
Rating - 6.9

A career resurgence for Cooper, thanks in a very large part to the MTV single "Poison" -- a smooth track with a strong, flowing chorus. However, despite the increased album sales and popularity, this is actually a small step back for Alice. Keyboards and some hair/cheese elements remove a good deal of 'Raise Your Fist and Yell's' bite, and much of that can be attributed to the album's "guestlist": Every song was co-written with Desmond Child, and other stand-ins include Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Kip Winger, and the like. In fact, the credits for this list reads like a semi-Who's Who of late '80s rock.
The result, again, is a lighter and much more commercial feel. Tracks such as "Spark in the Dark" and "Bed of Nails" are good and passable, but others, like "Only My Heart Talkin'," are really bad.
All's well that ends well, though, as it helped get Cooper some of the respect he deserved in the history of the arena/rock chronicles. It's just not that great of a disc.
