Alice Cooper - Raise Your Fist and Yell (1987/MCA)
Rating - 7.5

Beginning with 1986's 'Constrictor' album, Alice Cooper threw his hat into the '80s metal ring, and his sound became updated and a bit more accustomed to the times. However, where 'Constrictor' fell a bit short (lack of punch and vitality in places), 'Raise Your Fist and Yell' does a good job of correcting. The songwriting, sound, and overall feel have a carefree and sassy/rocking attitude, ala early Quiet Riot, perhaps -- though at the same time it can be a bit more serious, and with a touch of that Cooper darkness. Not too much glam, but not too heavy, either. Cooper finds a decent metal niche with this release.
Some of the better tracks include "Freedom," "Time to Kill," and "Not That Kind of Love". "Step on You" has a nice stalk, and "Roses on White Lace" is an excellent selection with plenty of heavy and biting moments.

TRACK LIST: Freedom/Lock Me Up/Give the Radio Back/Step On You/Not That Kind of Love/Prince of Darkness/Time to Kill/Chop, Chop, Chop/Gail/Roses On White Lace
