Brainstorm - Soul Temptation (2003/Metal Blade)
Rating - 9.0

With their second straight stellar release (and third major label offering overall), Brainstorm has placed themselves atop of Power Metal's most-underrated list. 'Soul Temptation' is an undeniable metal offering, with an excellent guitar/distortion sound, being both bottom-heavy and ripping/flowing. Think Silent Force, Metalium, and Dream Evil, only heavier and more aggressive. A very solid and consistent release.
Every single track from start to finish is a highlight, as once this one starts you really don't catch your breath until almost an hour's worth of music later. "The Leading" slides and thuds along, "Fading" has a heavy/atmospheric mix and a head-moving chorus, and "Shiva's Tears" is an evil, prowling piece.
The band showcases another excellent Andy Franck chorus in the deep-grinding and pounding "Dying Outside," and the title track is yet another slab that will leave you in reverence. Brainstorm is a band on the rise; it would be to every metalhead's benefit to pick them up and enjoy the power held within.
