Black Sabbath--Live Evil (1982)
Rating--5.9
A decent enough live album, in that it comes at a good time. Ronnie James Dio had been with the group for a couple of years,
and this does a nice job of showcasing a few of his Sab-led tunes, as well as letting fans hear him on the classics. However, some
of the performances are average at best--- just not very inspirational. And though it's not a really huge factor, Dio's stage presence
here is atrocious. Extremely stiff when conversely with the crowd, which makes the song transitions rather awkward.
A couple
of the songs rip live, including "Children of the Sea," "Voodoo," and "N.I.B." The rest, however, trudge slowly along.
I'd
imagine a centerpiece and highpoint for the ultimate Sabbath fan, but for the in-general metal afficionado, there are much better live
buys to be had.
