Black Sabbath--Cross Purposes (1994)
Rating--7.3
Tony Martin supplies the vocals on this outing, and does a great job. Hey, remember
whose shoes he has to fill! "I Witness" explodes first thing with a great
Butler/Iommi (imagine that?) combo sure to grab your attention. "Dying For
Love" is a keyboard/guitar based ballad flowing into a great chorus
effect-- Martin's shining moment.
Don't dissmiss this one, people. It's still
Sabbath, just on the next progressive level for the band. Good production helps out as well.
Highlights-- "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" slowly rolls in, and then...BAM!...
sharp-as-a-blade riffs suck you in.
Martin's vocal cries at the end of
"Dying" are driven by high emotion, and "Immaculate Perception" is as close
to what Geezer is doing in his new band of the same name-- heavy and choppy, with dirt around the edges.
