Balance of Power--Ten More Tales of Grand Illusion (1999/Massacre)
Rating--8.8
About to Burn--RealAudio
Power/progressive metal, reminding of a number of solid groups. The closest comparison may be Elegy-- though there are hints of
Vanden Plas, Kamelot, and Conception, as well as Silent
Force (though not as razor-heavy).
There is sharp distortion with some assisting keyboard work, providing for a melodic/edged mix. The smooth-yet-strong
vocals fit in well.
Several cutting tracks highlight the disc, including "Under the Spell," "About to Burn," and "Prisoner of Pride" with its soaring chorus.
Other solid
songs include "Day Breaker," "Savage Tears," "Blind Man," "Sins of the World," and the title track.
