Balance of Power--Perfect Balance (2001/Nightmare)
Rating--8.8
House of Cain--RealAudio
This fourth release from Balance of Power shows the group to be a clear and definitive leader in the power/prog world. The band's distortion and riffs are made of the
stuff than other bands can only dream of; fans of Conception & Threshold, early Queesryche, and ripping Dream Theater shall rejoice.
Every track is strong, with
those on the second half of the disc cutting the deepest marks. A crunchy atmosphere creates plenty of mood in "The Pleasure Room," while the nasty "Killer or the
Cure" takes you through shadows and around dark corners*
A steady riff-stalk is featured in "Hard Life," "Searching for the Truth" rips from the onset, and "House of Cain" has some of the disc's best chops and chugging.
The third straight knockout punch from this band; it's about time they get some just due.
