Chemical Imbalance-mp3

The fifth album from Balance of Power ushers in a new vocalist in John K. The loss of Lance King is bound to hurt, as he had (and still has) a truly original and unique voice. John K. is very good and capable, though. His high notes are also dead-on with early-career Geoff Tate, and in other octaves he reminds a bit of Rick Mythiasin (Steel Prophet) and Urban Breed (Tad Morose). The band's "sound" remains unchanged, which is certainly a good thing. Balance of Power continues to be one of the most underrated and "unknown" power/prog bands out there.
The title track is wide-open and ripping at the album's onset, with "Wake Up Call" being similar towards disc's end. The heavy-handed "I Wish You Were Here" has a pulsing kick-in, "No Place Like Home" is sliding and chopping, and "The Eyes of the World" has a steady rhythm and churn.
"Just Before You Leave" features a semi-slower pace, and is covered with soaring vocal work. A smoking double-bass intro to "Necessary Evil" gives way to a steady pace for its duration, while "Chemical Imbalance" is another cutting tune with a pace to leave you breathless.
