Bon Jovi--Bon Jovi (1984/Mercury)
Rating--7.0

The debut release from the Jersey boys, and the start of one of rock/metal's biggest-selling acts ever. Jon Bon Jovi displays his strong, mellow voice in full, and while there are a fare share of light pop-metal moments, there is crunch as well. A bit like a more-serious Autograph, if you will.
Opening single "Runaway" is a great, flowing track, and several others show shades of the upcoming 'Slippery When Wet,' including "Breakout" and "Come Back".
All of "Roulette," "Shot Through the Heart," and "Burning For Love" have their heavy moments, and "Love Lies," while slower, has a big chorus.
While little is overly spectacular here, you can see hints of the strong songwriting which will fully surface in a couple of years...
