Blind Guardian - Tales From the Twilight World (1990/No Remorse)
Rating - 8.2

The band's third release overall, and it contains several of their early "hits," so to speak. The music is customarily intricate, and the early Helloween-like sounds are heard as well. One of BG's strengths is its lush vocal melodies, which are pulled off without getting overly "happy" (like many of the Euro speed bands would be guilty of in the not-too-distant future of the '90s).
Openers "Traveler in Time" and "Welcome to Dying" are a good one-two punch, with the atmosphere of "Weird Dreams" following up. The lighter "Lord of the Rings" is strong, as are both "Tommyknockers" and "The Last Candle." A pleasant bonus is the live track "Run for the Night," which is performed in tight and almost studio-like quality -- which is simply a testament to the bandmember's live skills.
