Blind Guardian--Imaginations from the Other Side (1995)
Rating--8.0
Born in a Mourning Hall--RealAudio
It's taken me quite awhile to get used to this CD, but after a number of listens I've become adjusted to the
sound-- and am impressed by it. The guitar chords are a bit dwarfed by the drums and overall production at times, and since
I'm used to power chords and riffs, that wasn't really to my liking at first. However, I've come to appreciate the sound a lot more
now.
Blind Guardian is a lot like early Helloween-- fast drums and guitars, and excellent vocal
harmonizing. However, Blind Guardian takes the mystic and gothic feel even further with the stories and songs that are woven...
The singer's natural voice is sort of throaty, a la Blackie Lawless or Dee Snider, though the higher octaves are hit during
the harmonized choruses-- and he's a powerful screamer, too.
If you can get past the fast and manic pace, this is a definite
keeper. It took me over six months to do that, but I'd now rate every song as a highlight. Strong European metal.
