Journey Through the Dark-mp3

The band's fourth release overall, this is a good blend of speed and distortion. The '80s Helloween influence is apparent, and at this point in BG's career, they are more straight-forward metal than they will become later on. Vocalist Hansi Kursch has a truly unique voice, though his abrasiveness seems to turn off some people. His "best" moments may be when he's mystical and melodic, while still singing over heavy music. A great example of that can be found around the 1:40 mark of "Journey Through the Dark". All in all, this is a very strong release, in the standard fantasy-tinged world of Tolkien and the like.
Opener "Time What is Time" is fast and good, and a light, background key/symphony sound can be heard in the otherwise heavy "Theatre of Pain". "The Quest for Tanelorn" is good and chopping, the title track is solid, and "Trial By Fire" is of a swifter variety. "Ashes to Ashes" is yet another piece which earns a positive mark.
