Britny Fox--Britny Fox (1988)
Rating--7.5

Hold On--RealAudio
Looks like Cinderella...sounds like Cinderella...smells like Cinderella...it must
be...... Britny Fox! It makes sense, though, as the band thanks Keifer and the boys in the liner notes--obvious support
in Britny's formative days. But trash the comparisons--this one smokes in its own right. Simplistic rock in places, but bumping
and grinding from line to line.
First single "Girlschool" is decent, but the vocals have to go--much rougher than basically
anywhere else on the album. "Long Way to Love" gets things cooking with a good rhythm and smooth vox--which fits the
groove well. Check out the attitude slide of "Kick N' Fight"; it couples nicely with the chunky groove of "Rock Revolution".
The background/lead vocal mix of "Hold On" makes it perhaps the top track here, as it's pure rock--and shows how a
little songwriting hook savvy can carry a beat. Buried among the others is the steady cover "Gudbuy T'Jane"...
A band
hurt by their name and the hair scene, but stick around--the followup is strong as well.
