At Vance - Dragonchaser (2001/Shark)
Rating - 7.6

This release, which comes after 'Heart of Steel,' is a bit too inconsistent overall. A number of slower-paced tunes cause the disc to drag a bit, and really offsets some otherwise strong songs. In that regard, however, the "heavy" songs are a bit swifter, tighter, and thicker -- which points to the band's immediate future and the improvements that will take place.
The title track is a strong opener, and "Crucified" is another goodie. The mystical "Heaven Can Wait" is one of the few lighter offerings that hits the mark, and "Aces Death" is good as well.
The band offers up a cover of the Eagles' "Desperado," played entirely on acoustic guitar.
