Arcade--A/2 (1994)
Rating--8.6
Get Off My Back
From the opening thick riff and bass groove of "Angry", you know this is going to be a cool ride. Mixing the songwriting of
the '80s with a few updated '90s sounds, Arcade continues to pound out mega-groove semi-party metal. The last of their two discs,
but an impressive stint none-the-less. Pearcy's vocals are both stronger and clearer than on the first release, getting back closer to
his Ratt days--though not quite as majestic.
Highlights are a-plenty, as the band seems to search and find grooves like an
updated and advanced AC/DC sound machine. "The Move" has the mega groove, and it continues from
there. "So What" goes from an interesting little acoustic intro to a slow metal churn, and "Get Off My Back" is nonstop from the
beginning. "Welcome" sounds like Lynch Mob and GNR caught in a sweaty club together--which is pretty much the norm
here. Others include "Chain to Me", "Your Only Age", and "Hot Racin'", sounding again like hyperventilated Ratt and Crue.
HOT CHOPS: The riffs are everywhere, but a particular standout is the first few seconds of "Your Only Age". Sharp stuff! Also, look
out, because there's the Pearcy/Mustaine vocal mutation again on "Kidnapped"...
