Arcade--Arcade (1993)
Rating--8.6
Calm Before the Storm
Project of former Ratt frontman Stephen Pearcy and former Cinderella
drummer Fred Coury, this band absolutely rocks. Hitting the scene back in '93, the band got a bit of press and exposure, but
considering the overall state of metal at the time it's no real surprise they were largely overlooked. Still, the fushion-pumped, adrenalized
Aerosmith and GNR sounds are highly enjoyable and contagious.
Sounding
a good deal like Ratt and a little like Cinderella--though heavier than both--Arcade brings forth a rocking metal style that is both
refreshing and wild. Joining the two established rockers are a tremendous string trio, which pumps out riffs and bass grooves that
pulse and grind from start to finish. A very enjoyable (and somewhat surprising!) ride.
Highlights include "Nothin' to Lose", "Calm Before the
Storm", the Kix and Crue-laden "Screamin' S.O.S.", the Lynch Mob-
tinged "All Shook Up", and...well, you get the picture!
HOT CHOPS: The groove riff at the beginning of "Nothin' to Lose"--crunching power. Also, check out that opening riff in "All
Shook Up". Man!
Hey--is that Dave Mustaine singing on "Messed Up World"?? You know what I mean...
