Annihilator--Waking the Fury (2002/SPV)
Rating--8.4
Torn--RealAudio
This is the second disc with Joe Comeau at vocals, and it's yet another solid release from the metal stalwarts. The band continues to hold onto its technical
power/thrash roots, while at the same time firmly establishing themselves in the 2000's.
The rolling "Torn" brings a constant buzzsaw pace, and the fast churn and
grinding of "Ritual" is also tasty. "Firepower" has some staccato-pulsing verses, and all of "My Precious Lunatic Asylum," "Striker," and "The Blackest Day" are good.
This album's change-of-pace, AC/DC tribute is the attitude rhythm romp of "Nothing to Me".
