Annihilator--Alice in Hell (1989/Roadrunner)
Rating--7.5

Good Bay-area thrash (in style), much in the vein of older Megadeth and Violence. Guitar master Jeff Waters leads the way on this debut, laying down songs that are both complex and creative. Singer Randy Rampage's vocals are a bit strained and over-the-top at times, and he reminds of David Wayne, Metal Church's first singer. However, they don't detract from the music too terribly much.
The pace is fast and furious, with both speed runs and double bass work keeping things moving.
Highlights include the multi-riffed "Alison Hell," "Word Salad," and the instrumental "Schizos (Are Never Alone)".
HOT CHOPS: Check out the groove that is established in "Schizos" at the 1:50 mark. Oh yeah!!
