Angra - Temple of Shadows (2004/SPV)
Rating - 6.9

This is the second full-length studio release with Eduardo Falaschi on vocals (and fourth album overall) for the band, and his somewhat smooth-to-Deris-sounding voice fits well in most places. While this release shows a lot of variety in styles, it can get to be a bit too sporadic and disjointed, as well. Not a lot of songs truly stand out, and considering how long the band has been around (and some of their past excellent works) that is somewhat disappointing. A lot of the material here fits in that same good-but-not-great limbo that a band like Mob Rules has toiled in, for example.
The swift "Spread Your Fire" is a good musical opener, but a flow that is too bombastic and sing-a-long is distracting. The heavy-laden "Morning Star" is a highlight, and both "Waiting Silence" and "Wishing Well" are also good.
Some guest vocals are supplied in places by Hansi Kursch ("Wings of Destination") and Kai Hansen ("Temple of Hate").
