Angra--Angels Cry (1993/Rising Sun)

Carry On--RealAudio
From South America comes Angra, who at times can sound like mirror images of classic Helloween and (to a slightly lesser extent) current Stratovarius. There are soaring vocals, and fast and intricate instrument playing. The songs do not, however, stay consistently fast through-and-through, as the above comparisons are clearer in some places than others. Still strong work, though.
"Carry On" is the first taste of the rapid and precise material, and is followed up by the drive rhythm of "Time"---a track with an excellent guitar-fueled flow. The choppy and strong "Evil Warning" stands out, and a number of tunes beg to be noticed, including the title cut, "Streets of Tomorrow," and the smooth "Never Understand."
A band to heed, and a unit most true power/prog fans have been long aware of.
TRACK LIST: Unfinished Allegro/Carry On/Time/Angels Cry/Stand Away/Never Understand/Wuthering Heights/Streets of Tomorrow/Evil Warning/Lasting Child (I - The Parting Words); (II - Renaissance)
