General Hospital--RealAudio
Yngwie Malmsteen hits the hard rock scene, joining up with Graham Bonnet and company to produce some keyboard and gothic-tinged distortions. The styles sway between late '70s UFO and Styx to the more metallized musings of Malmsteen's own Rising Force of the '80s. In fact, Bonnet very much fits the mold of just about all the singers Yngwie would search out and employ in the future. Also, one of the first chapters in the progressive metal scene, now that I think about it.
"General Hospital" is solid with its mystic, chunky chord and note mixtures, and the soaring vox of "Jet to Jet" blends well with the guitar and keyboard mix.
Stop-and-go verses stack up well in "Hiroshima Mon Amour," and Malmsteen shows his six-string calling in the solo of "Kree Nakoorie".
Rounding out the disc are two other solid offerings, "Too Young to Die, Too Drunk to Live" and "Starcarr Lane". In all, some good gothic-era hard rock, with two tremendous musicians featured.
