Arch Enemy--Wages of Sin (2002/Century Media)
Rating--8.4

Shadows and Dust--RealAudio
The band introduces Angela Gassow as its new singer, but there isn't a big difference in style--despite the fact that Angela is a woman! She can growl with the best of them, kiddies. There's more of the same melodic death/black power metal that the group has become accustomed to delivering, and this release should firmly entrench them at the top of that particular genre. 'Wages of Sin' builds solidly on the 'Burning Bridges' release, and should please the band's fans immensely.
Numerous tracks mix both brutality with rhythm, including "Shadows and Dust," the faster "Ravenous," the drum-and-tempo driven "Savage Messiah," and the constant "Heart of Darkness".
Nasty low-chord pulloffs are the main attraction in "Behind the Smile," and both "Enemy Within" and the flowing "Burning Angel" make their marks as well.
TRACK LIST: Enemy Within/Burning Angel/Heart of Darkness/Ravenous/Savage Messiah/Dead Bury Their Dead/Web of Lies/The First Deadly Sin/ Behind the Smile/Snow Bound/Shadows and Dust
